Zignals online investment tools (registration required, but it is painless) are dense with UI controls and information.

At first it may appear overwhelming but, considering how much information they need to present, these guys did a great job with progressive disclosure. There’s tons to see here, dig around and you’ll find more and more. If you’re working on a UI project this dashboard is rich pickings for ideas on user controls.

Here are just a few highlights.

They did a nice job with the shading on these charts. You know which area is blue and which is magenta, but they didn’t have to use huge hits of solid color to communicate it. Just a nice intense top line then a gradient from gray to color. Much easier on the eyes if you’re looking at these charts all day.

These slider controls also serve as sparklines.

My only critique, and this is a minor one considering all that’s great here, is that some of the chart animations are a little corny.
